Adipurush VFX comparisons return for Ramayana
The visual effects of Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’ are drawing criticism again, with some social media users calling parts of the footage artificial. Similar complaints have followed each major promotional release of the film.
The latest round came after the second international trailer, an English-language cut, was released on October 15. Reactions were mixed. Many viewers praised the scale, the action and Yash’s portrayal of Ravana, while others felt the visuals in such a high-budget film could have been better. Some users described individual shots as disappointing.
The VFX complaints began with the first teaser on April 2, which was unveiled on Hanuman Jayanti. Critics said some shots looked artificial and lacked depth, particularly natural settings such as forests and waterfalls, and a section of users likened the visuals to those of Om Raut’s 2023 film ‘Adipurush’, which was widely trolled over its effects. The ‘Ramayana’ trailer released on July 30 drew a similar mix of praise and criticism, with some users questioning why more practical locations were not used.
The makers have defended the work. Speaking to Collider, Ranbir Kapoor, who plays Ram, said many viewers now act as CGI critics after watching a short clip on their phones. Producer Namit Malhotra, whose company DNEG handles the effects, said the VFX was not yet complete and urged audiences to see the film on a large screen. Tiwari said some sequences took around two and a half to three years to complete.
The film, reportedly made on a budget of Rs 4,000 crore, also stars Sai Pallavi as Sita. The first part is scheduled for a Diwali 2026 release.
